What is a terrible landlord?
A terrible landlord is a property owner or property management company that is extremely or excessively bad.
The problem
- Utah is one of the most landlord-friendly states in the US, leaving renters with limited protections.
- Most renters don't have the time, money or legal support they need to hold a terrible landlord accountable.
- Terrible landlords know this and take advantage of renters by refusing to fix things, charging erroneous fees, and bullying renters with threats of eviction (or more fees) instead of taking accountability for their terrible behavior.
Our mission
We provide free tools and resources to help renters understand their rights, spot predatory lease terms before signing, and hold landlords accountable when they break the law or violate lease agreements.
We also use anonymous survey data submitted through our lease scan tool to identify patterns between predatory leasing practices and tenant demographics.
